The SOS Siren Operated Sensor (SOS) has been used for accessing residential and commercial gates, including those at airports, government buildings, and military facilities, since 1992. It is widely implemented across North, South, and Central America as well as in Europe. This unit allows emergency responders to open gates, doors, parking arms, barriers, and roll-up doors in emergencies. The SOS system recognizes the "YELP" siren within 3 seconds to trigger the gate to open. It features six switches for customizing the sound and duration that the gate remains open after activation. The sensor can be configured to open for a single vehicle, stay open for 15 minutes, or latch open until manually reset. The system includes a CD with an emergency responder "YELP" siren for testing and sensitivity adjustment. The sensitivity can be set between 80 and 125 decibels using a potentiometer dial. Each unit also comes with a sign indicating that the gate is protected by SOS, which is a requirement in many communities around the world due to its reliability.
The SOS unit includes a 5-year warranty and features a NEMA 4 enclosure designed to blend in and withstand various conditions. It has larger internal gaskets for enhanced protection and an up-front microphone for quicker detection. The technical requirements include a voltage range of DC 9 to 24 volts or AC 9 to 16 volts, with a 0.1 mA draw when listening and a 25 mA draw during activation. The wire gauge needed is 18-22 AWG (not included), and it operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -30 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit features a potentiometer for sensitivity adjustment, six programming switches for customizing the gate's behavior, and two reset buttons for convenience. Additionally, you can test the system with a CD recording or download an MP3 file from the manufacturer's website. The reflective sign included is available in either 4" x 5" or 8" x 10" sizes, depending on your preference.
